Kitui Deputy Governor and CECM for Tourism, Hospitality and Game Reserves, Augustine Kanani, on Monday officially opened a capacity building training for hotel staff aimed at enhancing service delivery and revitalizing the county’s tourism sector.
The training, held at the Multipurpose Hall in Kitui Central, seeks to equip hospitality workers with modern skills and service excellence techniques to meet both local and international standards.
The programme, which brings together stakeholders from the Tourism Fund and Tseikuru National Polytechnic, marks Kitui as the 17th county to benefit from the nationwide hospitality training initiative. A similar exercise is being conducted concurrently in Mwingi for hotel staff from the northern region of the county.
Speaking during the opening session, Mr. Kanani underscored the significance of skills development and professional certification in transforming the local hospitality industry.
“Acquiring these skills and certifications will enhance service delivery in the hotel industry and, in turn, boost tourism in the county. With the recent launch of the Kitui Tourism Circuit, our workforce must be prepared to deliver world-class service that places Kitui on another level,” he said.
He added that under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, the County Government of Kitui continues to prioritize initiatives that strengthen the tourism value chain through strategic partnerships and continuous capacity building.
Kanani noted that these efforts are designed to empower the hospitality workforce, attract more visitors, and position Kitui as a preferred tourism destination in Eastern Kenya.
