On Saturday September 27, 2025 -Kitui Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, officially launched the Kitui Tourism Circuit at the iconic Nzambani Rock in a colourful event that coincided with the celebration of World Tourism Day 2025.

The circuit, themed “Unveiling the Rich and Diverse Tourism Treasures of Kitui County,” brings together Kitui’s unique natural, cultural, and historical attractions into a structured, marketable package aimed at boosting the local economy, creating jobs, and positioning the county on both the national and international tourism map.

Speaking during the launch, Governor Malombe said his administration had committed to refining and marketing a vibrant and sustainable tourism circuit linking Kitui with both the coastal and Mount Kenya regions. He highlighted ongoing investments in game reserves, eco-parks, ranger camps, and modern entry gates to enhance access, safety, and visibility.

Among the attractions featured in the circuit are South Kitui National Reserve, Mwingi North Game Reserve, Mutomo Reptile Park, Kalundu Eco-Park, Muumoni and Mutitu Important Bird Areas, Ikoo Valley, Ngomeni Rock, and sacred sites such as Museve Shrine and Ikutha AIC early Missionary Church.

“Tourism is not just about leisure; it is a pillar of economic transformation, cultural pride, job creation, and rural development. With this circuit, we envision improved tourist experiences, longer stays, and growth of local enterprises in hospitality, transport, crafts, and cultural showcases,” Governor Malombe said.

He further called on the private sector, communities, youth, and women to seize the opportunities presented by the circuit, while inviting development partners to walk with Kitui in expanding the reach of the initiative.

The Governor also reaffirmed Kitui’s collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service, the National Police Service, and other partners to ensure effective conservation, safety, and sustainable tourism practices.

With the official launch, Kitui now seeks to diversify into eco-tourism, cultural tourism, agro-tourism, religious tourism, and medical tourism, leveraging the county’s rich heritage and infrastructure such as the Kitui County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Governor Malombe concluded by declaring the Kitui Tourism Circuit officially launched, urging Kenyans and international visitors to “Tembea Kitui – No Vaa.”
