ODM Moves to Expel Edwin Sifuna Over Alleged Betrayal

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is facing internal turbulence following a decision by its leadership to initiate disciplinary action against party Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna. According to insider sources, the party’s top organ has resolved to expel Sifuna over what it termed as acts of betrayal and disloyalty to the party’s ideals and leadership.
Reports indicate that Sifuna’s recent conduct and statements have caused growing unease within ODM, with some members accusing him of undermining the party’s unity. Senior officials insist that the decision was reached after extensive deliberations aimed at safeguarding the integrity and cohesion of the movement.
In a strongly worded statement, the party emphasized that it will not tolerate behavior perceived as a threat to its stability or future. “ODM remains guided by discipline, respect, and collective responsibility. Any member who acts contrary to these principles will face the full disciplinary measures,” said a senior party source.
The move has, however, sparked division among ODM supporters, with some defending Sifuna as a reformist voice within the party, while others accuse him of abandoning the core values that define the Orange movement. Political observers warn that the fallout could have far-reaching implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As the situation develops, all eyes are now on Edwin Sifuna and how he will respond to the party’s decision. His next move could determine not only his political future but also the stability and direction of one of Kenya’s most influential political parties.
