On December 6, 2016- The Kibwezi–Kitui Road was officially launched and commissioned by then President Uhuru Kenyatta, alongside the then Deputy President William Ruto.
The commissioning marked a major milestone in improving road infrastructure linking Makueni and Kitui counties, enhancing connectivity, trade, and access to essential services for residents of the region.
