Wiper Party leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka is at a defining moment in his long political journey, with allies and supporters increasingly calling for a fresh, bold, and vocal crop of elected leaders who can firmly defend his record and political legacy. Across Ukambani—stretching from Mwingi North, Kitui Central to Kitui West—concerns are growing that some elected Wiper leaders have failed to stand with their party leader when it matters most.
For decades, Kalonzo Musyoka has remained a central figure in national politics, advocating for democracy, peace, constitutionalism, and regional development. However, political observers argue that his achievements and sacrifices are often left undefended in the public arena, exposing him to sustained attacks from rivals while his own elected leaders remain silent or non-committal.
Supporters say the problem lies with what they term “watermelon leaders” — politicians elected on the Wiper ticket but who lack ideological loyalty, political courage, or consistency. Such leaders, critics argue, enjoy the party’s support during elections but quickly distance themselves from its leadership when national political temperatures rise.
In constituencies across Kitui County and the larger Ukambani region, the expectation is clear: Members of Parliament and other elected leaders must publicly and consistently defend their party leader’s record. From coalition negotiations to national debates, Kalonzo Musyoka should not be left to fight political battles alone while those he helped ascend to office watch from the sidelines.
Political analysts note that strong parties are built on leaders who speak with one voice. For Wiper to remain relevant and competitive ahead of future elections, it needs articulate, fearless MPs who can prosecute its agenda in Parliament, media platforms, and grassroots forums without hesitation.
The call for renewal is not necessarily about age, but about conviction. Pro-Kalonzo voices insist that the party requires leaders who believe in the Wiper ideology, understand its history, and are ready to defend Kalonzo “kufa kupona” — at all costs — just as leaders in other major parties rally behind their principals.
As the 2027 political contest begins to take shape, the message from the grassroots is growing louder: loyalty, clarity, and courage must define Wiper’s elected leadership. For Kalonzo Musyoka to successfully project his vision nationally, he will need a dependable team across Mwingi, Kitui Central, Kitui West, and beyond — leaders who do not just wear the party colors during campaigns, but who defend their leader and his legacy every single day.
