Governor Malombe Appeals to President Ruto to Fast-Track Key Development Projects in Kitui
Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe used this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium to call on President William Ruto to prioritize the completion of major development projects across Kitui County. Speaking during the national celebrations hosted in the county for the first time, the governor highlighted the urgent need to finalize stalled projects that are vital for the region’s growth and prosperity.
Dr. Malombe appealed for the completion of Umaa Dam to enhance water supply, the Enziu River Bridge in Mwingi to improve transport connectivity, and the Kithomboani Market to provide a modern trading space for displaced women traders. He also emphasized the importance of upgrading the Wikililye–Kavisuni–Thwake–Wote Road and completing the Mulutu–Ithiiani–Tiva–Kiliko and Makutano–Mbusyani–Ithimani–Ikolania–Ithiiani roads to open up rural areas for economic activities.
The governor further mentioned the ongoing and proposed projects, including the modern markets in Kakongo and Kamuwongo, the construction of 2,000 affordable housing units, and the establishment of a Kenya Utalii College campus at Tiva, which he said would create employment opportunities and boost Kitui’s economy. He lauded the national government for completed projects such as the 10,000-seater Ithookwe Stadium, the Kitui Mini State Lodge, and the Ithookwe Airstrip, noting that they reflect growing national attention to the county.
In his Mashujaa Day message, Dr. Malombe honored Kenya’s heroes and heroines — from national freedom fighters to local icons such as Mbiti Mati, Kitili Mwendwa, and Nzamba Kitonga. He also paid glowing tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, describing him as a true national hero whose legacy of justice and democracy will forever inspire generations.
