Kenya’s agriculture sector remains heavily challenged by fragmented data systems, limited access to markets, and the recurring impacts of drought. These hurdles continue to slow productivity and weaken the resilience of farmers across the country. It is against this backdrop that the Intergovernmental Forum on Agriculture 2025 convened, bringing together national and county leaders, development partners and industry actors to find unified, practical solutions.
During the forum, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kangwe and Principal Secretary for Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke underscored the urgent need for coordinated reforms. The two leaders committed to accelerating digital transformation in agriculture through the Kenya Agricultural Digital Center (KADIC), promoting innovation and precision farming technologies, strengthening livestock production systems, expanding market access, and unlocking idle land for productive use. They further emphasized the importance of harmonizing donor support to avoid duplication and enhance impact.
The forum also placed strong focus on empowering young people within the agricultural value chain. By aligning technology, innovation and youth participation, the government aims to build a dynamic, modern and competitive agricultural sector. The commitments made signal a decisive step toward a more resilient food system capable of withstanding climate shocks and driving sustainable economic growth.
