Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the national government to accelerate development and ensure that residents of Kitui County continue to benefit from transformative projects. Speaking on Saturday during the burial ceremony of the late Grace Syong’ombe Mutua in Matinyani, the Governor emphasized that cooperation between the two levels of government remains essential for sustainable progress.
Dr. Malombe highlighted several flagship projects that have materialised through strong partnerships with the national administration. He cited the modern Ithookwe Kitui Stadium as a major milestone that has elevated sports infrastructure in the region, offering young people a platform to nurture their talents and participate competitively at national levels.
He also pointed to the revived Kitui Airstrip, noting that its rehabilitation is expected to boost tourism, reduce travel time, and enhance the county’s connectivity with the rest of the country. According to the Governor, such infrastructure development opens new economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs and investors.
On road infrastructure, Dr. Malombe praised the recently launched road projects initiated by the President, saying they are already transforming transport and improving access to markets, health facilities, and social services. He added that improved mobility is essential for unlocking the county’s economic potential, especially in rural areas that have long suffered from poor road networks.
The Governor noted that these achievements demonstrate the impact of collaborative governance, urging residents to acknowledge the benefits that come with unity of purpose. He assured the public that his administration remains proactive in lobbying for more national government support to scale up ongoing development programmes.
Dr. Malombe reiterated that his priority is to champion initiatives that directly uplift livelihoods, create jobs, and enhance service delivery. He stressed that development should not be politicized, as its ultimate goal is to improve the well-being of Kitui residents irrespective of political affiliations.
Addressing the mourners, he encouraged the people of Kitui to support ongoing efforts by both levels of government, saying that progress can only be sustained when leaders and citizens work together. He reaffirmed his commitment to accountable, transparent, and people-centered leadership.
The Governor used the occasion to console the family of the late Grace Syong’ombe Mutua, mother to Bretta Mwangangi, the Chief Officer for Irrigation in Matinyani. He described the late Grace as a dedicated community pillar whose legacy will continue to inspire many.
Local leaders present at the ceremony echoed the Governor’s message of unity and development-focused leadership, applauding his unwavering efforts to steer the county toward prosperity. They also urged Kitui residents to rally behind the administration to ensure the successful implementation of all ongoing and future projects.
The event brought together family, friends, community members, and county officials who celebrated the life of the late Grace Syong’ombe while reaffirming their shared hope for peace, development, and continued collaboration for the welfare of Kitui County.
