Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. has issued a firm and detailed rebuttal after a statement falsely attributed to him circulated widely on social media, claiming he had dismissed the chances of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka defeating President William Ruto in the 2027 presidential race. In an official communication released on Saturday, the governor described the viral quote as malicious, fabricated, and politically motivated.
The purported statement suggested that Kalonzo lacked the financial and political machinery required to unseat an incumbent president — sentiments Governor Mutula termed “a complete creation by desperate propagandists.” He insisted he has never made such remarks privately or publicly, calling the claims part of a broader scheme to sow discord within Ukambani leadership and weaken the opposition coalition.
Governor Mutula reaffirmed his loyalty to the Wiper Democratic Movement and strongly defended the presidential bid of Kalonzo Musyoka, whom he described as the “cleanest, most experienced, and strongest candidate” to lead Kenya. He emphasized that at no point has he questioned Kalonzo’s capability to challenge and defeat any political opponent, including the sitting president.
The governor linked the spread of the fabricated quote to political actors who are “terrified of a united Ukambani and a united opposition.” According to him, these groups are exploiting social media to twist narratives, revive outdated content, and create confusion ahead of the 2027 elections. He urged residents not to fall prey to misinformation designed to divide the region’s leadership.
While maintaining his focus on development, Governor Mutula clarified that his willingness to work with any administration is purely driven by service delivery, not political allegiance. He stressed that collaboration on development matters should not be mistaken for a shift in political loyalty or a betrayal of opposition values.
Mutula also pointed out that his political detractors have consistently attempted to misrepresent his engagements with national leaders for their own agenda. He stated that these smear tactics would not deter him from championing the interests of the people of Makueni.
The governor appealed to the public and the media to practice responsibility, especially in an era where misinformation spreads rapidly and poses risks to political stability. He encouraged residents to verify information before sharing, noting that fabricated statements can damage relationships and derail development progress.
Mutula reiterated that Makueni County remains firmly behind Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid. He expressed confidence that with unity, integrity, and a clear vision, the opposition is well positioned to deliver the change Kenyans are yearning for.
He concluded his address by thanking residents for their continued support and urging them to remain focused on the bigger picture — strengthening democracy and safeguarding truth in political discourse. “Together,” he said, “we will overcome lies and stand for the future Kenya deserves.”
The governor signed off with a message of gratitude and blessings for the people of Makueni County, reaffirming his commitment to both development and principled political leadership.
