HANDING OVER OF TULIA ESP MARKET SITE MARKS MAJOR MILESTONE FOR KITUI WEST
The construction of the Tulia ESP Market in Kitui West has officially commenced following a formal handing-over ceremony presided over by Commissioner for County Revenue Allocation, Benedict Muasya.
The event brought together national and county government officials, the NGAO team led by the DCC, the Regional Director for Housing, and community leaders, including representatives of the Tulia Market leadership. The project marks a significant step toward boosting economic growth in the constituency.
The KSh 70 million market development is scheduled for completion within 12 months and is expected to transform the trading environment for hundreds of local vendors. Designed as a modern commercial hub, the facility will enhance business efficiency and provide a dignified, secure space where traders can operate and expand their enterprises.
Among the key features of the upcoming market are a cold storage room to support fresh produce traders, a solar-powered borehole to ensure reliable water supply, and lactating rooms that will offer safe and private spaces for breastfeeding mothers. These components aim to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in business.

The project will also house SACCO offices, providing essential financial services and enabling traders to save, borrow, and grow their businesses sustainably. An ICT hub and ATM booths will further enhance access to digital and financial services, positioning the market as a modern center for commerce and innovation.
Community welfare has also been factored into the design, with a social hall and a children’s play area included to serve as shared spaces for social activities and family-friendly interactions. Additionally, a dedicated kitchen for food vendors will help standardize hygiene and improve the overall dining experience for customers.
Commissioner Muasya applauded the strong partnership between the National Government, Kitui County leadership, and local stakeholders, noting that such collaboration is critical for the successful delivery of development projects. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting small enterprises and improving livelihoods at the grassroots.

He further expressed deep appreciation to President William Samoei Ruto for his steadfast dedication to grassroots development. Muasya noted that the Tulia ESP Market is part of the broader national agenda to empower traders, farmers, women, and youth, and to create more inclusive economic opportunities across the country.
