A total of 39 adult education instructors in Kitui County will sit for the 2020 Teacher Certificate in Adult Education (TCAE) examination. Making the announcement, the Kitui County Adult and Continuing Education Officer (CACEO), Mr. Stanley M. Kihara, disclosed that the thirty nine are 32 females and seven males.
“The registration for the candidates was carried out from September 1 to October 15, 2019,” the officer said.
Mr.Kihara was speaking during a senior staff meeting for all the District Adult and Continuing Education Officers (DACEOs) in Kitui County held at the Kitui Multipurpose Development Training Institute.
The county comprises a total of 18 districts. Currently, the county has a total of 222 adult education teachers. And it has a total of 8,261 adult education learners who are 6,719 females and 1,542 males.
Kihara announced that the counties that register their candidates at the Kitui Multipurpose Development Training Institute which is a Kenya National Examinations Council’s examination centre are Kitui, Machakos, Kiambu, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit and Wajir.
He said the examination will be done in July 2020 at the centre. The adult education instructors who will pass the examination will be awarded certificates. Kihara disclosed that for one to register for the examination, she or he should have a minimum of the D plain grade and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
He also said that the adult education instructors are trained through distance studies. The officer said that for the candidates to acquire the certificates, they are tested in five subjects-AEO1 (Concept policy and development), AEO2 (Psychology, human relations and methods), AEO3 (Curriculum development and evaluation), AEO4 (Kiswahili) and AEO5 (Teaching practice).
Four of the five subjects are theory while the fifth one is the teaching practicing. The Teacher Certificate in Adult Education examination is a two year course taken by students who wish to be teachers at the adult education centres after they complete the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination.
