3500 Needy children Receive education bursaries in Kitui South

Kitui South MP Dr. Rachael Nyamai has released school bursaries valued at Ksh 18 Million that will support the education of needy learners in her constituency.

An estimated 3500 needy and deserving university and secondary school students will benefit from the funds issued at Mutomo chief’s camp on Monday.

Over 600 institutions of learning among them special schools and vocational training institutes have been targeted for support in the program.

A separate Ksh 1.2Million has been allocated towards the support of the clergy and local Islamic community in Mutomo and Ikutha sub-counties respectively.

Addressing educationists, school heads and local residents who attended the event, Dr. Nyamai reiterated her commitment towards the improvement of education and literacy levels in Kitui South.

“We have secured a total of 240 scholarships from the Government and another 144 from banking institutions which together with the CDF bursaries will help transform Kitui South” she said.

Dr. Nyamai further urged parents to enrol their children into secondary schools or vocational centres after their primary school education in respect to the total transition directive from the government .

” No pupil should remain at home after their KCPE because we have low cost secondary schools and well equipped youth polytechnics where our children can proceed to further their education or acquire necessary skills” she added

Speaking on behalf of school heads, Kenya Secondary schools heads association (KSSHA) Kitui South chapter Mr Jacob Mutambuki said the CDF has continued to play a significant role in the advancement of education standards in the region.

He said the support had led to the increase in number of students gaining admission into university every year in Kitui South.

164 students qualified for university admission in the constituency last year (2019) registering a record improvement from a low 61 in 2018.

“As an educationist your support to the schools we lead through bursaries and infrastructural development has been of great help and as headteachers we are grateful ” he said.

Mutomo DCC Ronald Enyakasi pledged government support towards education programs in the region as well as enhanced security for teachers in volatile parts of the vast constituency.
