The Ministry of Urban Development is spearheading an ambitious modernisation drive in Kitui Town and Mwingi, ushering in visible transformation across the two major urban centres under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.

The ongoing facelift has seen the installation of modern street lighting, expanded cabro paving, improved drainage systems, and enhanced road markings, significantly improving mobility, safety, and the overall urban outlook. The upgrades have also contributed to improved security, with well-lit streets and better-planned public spaces creating safer environments for residents and businesses alike, the TCD digital reports

Speaking on the progress, the Chief Officer for Urban Development, Mr. Mutemi, credited the gains to collective responsibility and teamwork within the ministry, noting that strong leadership from Governor Malombe has provided the policy direction and momentum needed to deliver results.

“These developments are a product of coordinated effort across the entire ministry, guided by the Governor’s vision for sustainable and inclusive urban growth,” Mr. Mutemi said.

Residents and traders in both towns have welcomed the changes, citing improved accessibility, better drainage during rainy seasons, and a more vibrant night-time economy driven by reliable street lighting.

The County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to continued investment in urban infrastructure, positioning Kitui Town and Mwingi as modern, well-planned hubs that support economic growth and enhance the quality of life for residents.
