The County Government of Kitui has successfully completed the construction of the Karumu Sump Well in Kangingo Village, Tseikuru Ward, during the 2024/2025 financial year. The project was implemented under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to clean and reliable water in arid and semi-arid areas of the county.
The newly completed sump well is expected to serve hundreds of residents and provide a dependable water source for domestic use. In addition, the facility will support livestock, a critical component of livelihoods in Tseikuru Ward, especially during prolonged dry seasons.
Residents of Kangingo Village have welcomed the project, terming it a major boost to their daily lives. They noted that the sump well will significantly reduce the distance and time spent fetching water, allowing families to focus on other productive activities.
County officials stated that the Karumu Sump Well aligns with the county governmentโs broader water and sanitation agenda aimed at enhancing food security, improving public health, and strengthening resilience against drought.
The Kitui County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to investing in water infrastructure across all wards, with similar projects planned to ensure sustainable water access for communities and their livestock countywide.
