Kitui County staff delivered an outstanding performance at this year’s KICOSCA Games held in Siaya County, showcasing exceptional talent and determination across multiple disciplines. The delegation put on an inspiring display that earned the county an impressive collection of medals, reaffirming Kitui’s rising profile in competitive sports.
In the games, Kitui County excelled in several categories, securing 2nd position in Draughts, 3rd in Table Tennis, and another 2nd-place finish in Pool. The athletics team also impressed, with a remarkable 1st-place win in Javelin, alongside strong finishes in both Triple Jump and Long Jump, where they claimed 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. The walking race team added to the success with 2nd and 4th place finishes.
The county’s inclusivity in sports was also highlighted through the impressive achievements in the 100m (PWDs) category. Collins Kilonzo finished 2nd, while Evans Musai powered his way to a 1st-place victory, reinforcing Kitui County’s commitment to empowering athletes of all abilities and providing equal opportunities in sports.
Much of this success is attributed to the unwavering support from the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports, Culture, and ICT, under the leadership of CECM Phoebe Ndunyu. Her ministry has remained instrumental in nurturing and promoting talent, both within the county government and in the wider community, ensuring athletes have the necessary facilities and motivation to compete at their best.
The KICOSCA Games continue to serve as a vital platform for counties to showcase unity, teamwork, and sporting excellence. Kitui County’s remarkable performance in Siaya not only reflects the dedication of its athletes but also underscores the county’s growing investment in sports development. The team’s triumphs have brought pride back home and cemented Kitui as a strong competitor in the national county games.
