Residents of Yatta Kwa Vonza in Kitui Rural have praised Governor Julius Makau Malombe and area MCA Mark Ndingo for championing the establishment of the Urgent Action Fund–Africa (UAF-Africa) headquarters in the area, a groundbreaking Sh1.2 billion infrastructure project. Locals say the initiative is not only elevating the region’s profile but also unlocking social and economic opportunities previously unseen in the ward.

During a Funders Day event held at the facility, Governor Malombe, Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani, and several CECs and Chief Officers toured the expansive and picturesque project. MCA Ndingo, who hosted the high-level delegation, noted that officials took them through the nearly completed infrastructure, expressing confidence that the final product will be a game-changer for the community and the continent.

The state-of-the-art facility, the first of its kind in Africa, is set to host survivors of gender-based violence, offering them a safe and serene environment for healing. With support from international partners, the centre aims to provide comprehensive care, therapy, and empowerment programs, positioning Kitui as a leader in addressing GBV recovery and support services.

Residents have applauded the project’s impact, saying it has already begun transforming Yatta Kwa Vonza through job creation, improved local business activity, and enhanced visibility for the area. Many believe the headquarters will attract more investment and development, further uplifting livelihoods and positioning the ward as a regional hub for humanitarian and social justice work.

He noted that the massive investment is a testament to the trust placed in the area and pledged continued collaboration to unlock more transformative opportunities for residents.
