Yatta kwa Vonza Member of the County Assembly, Hon. Mark Ndingo, on Saturday hosted Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani, and a team of County Executive Committee Members (CECs) and Chief Officers (COs) at the Urgent Action Fund–Africa Headquarters for a special Funders Day event.
The high-level delegation toured the ongoing multi-billion-shilling facility that is nearing completion in Muselele, Kitui Rural.During the visit, the leaders were taken around the magnificent and picturesque complex, which has been praised as one of the most modern and transformative social investment projects in the region.
The facility, set to be the first of its kind in Africa, is designed to host and support survivors of gender-based violence, offering them a safe space for healing, recovery, and empowerment.Governor Malombe commended the initiative, noting that such strategic investments not only enhance social welfare but also elevate Kitui County’s position regionally and internationally.
He applauded the Urgent Action Fund–Africa and its global partners for choosing Kitui as the home of this landmark project, emphasizing the positive ripple effects it will have on the local economy.MCA Ndingo expressed gratitude for the strong collaboration between his office, the county government, and the project funders.
He noted that the development is already catalyzing growth in Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward, opening up opportunities in employment, business, and infrastructure. He further pledged continued support to ensure the project fully meets its intended purpose of restoring dignity to GBV survivors.
The Funders Day event marked yet another milestone in the partnership between Kitui County and international development agencies. As completion nears, the facility is expected to attract investors, researchers, and social justice advocates from across Africa, transforming Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward into a hub of innovation, healing, and community progress.
