A fresh storm has hit the Kitui County Assembly after MCA Jeremiah Mutua, MCA Katumbi and MCA Gabriel Munyao were accused of forging signatures of NARC party members in an alleged plot to unseat Minority Leader Hon. Alex Nganga and Minority Whip Hon. Sylvester Kitheka. The controversial move is said to have been executed with the aid of the County Assembly Speaker, Hon. Kevin Kinengo, sparking outrage among the affected ward representatives.
According to insiders, Kauwi MCA Gabriel Munyao, together with MCA Jeremiah Mutua and MCA Katumbi, reportedly held a secret meeting where they resolved to change the minority leadership. It is alleged that they went ahead to forge signatures of five NARC MCAs to give the impression of a legitimate decision. Those whose signatures were used have since disowned the purported meeting and the said resolution.
The five aggrieved MCAs formally reported the matter to the Kitui Central Police Station, stating that their signatures were forged without their knowledge or consent. They questioned why, despite filing the complaint, the implicated MCAs have not been summoned to record statements. The members now want the investigation expedited, arguing that the integrity of the assembly is at stake.
The affected members have also called on law enforcement to treat the forgery claims with the seriousness they deserve, noting that the alleged actions constitute criminal conduct and undermine democratic processes within the assembly. They warned that failure to act may embolden similar misconduct in future political disputes.
Meanwhile, the NARC party leadership is expected to issue an official statement regarding the alleged party changes in the assembly. The party has been under pressure to clarify its position, particularly on whether due process was followed and whether any disciplinary action will be taken against the accused MCAs.
Despite the unfolding controversy, Speaker Kevin Kinengo has already communicated the leadership changes to the assembly, a move that has further fueled tensions. Leaders allied to Hon. Nganga and Hon. Kitheka insist that the alterations are illegitimate and must be reversed pending investigations.
