Former Wiper Party chairman and ex-Kitui Senator David Musila has made a dramatic political comeback after months of silence, appearing in Kitui to welcome President William Ruto during his high-profile meeting with Ukambani leaders.

Musila, a respected veteran politician and former Kitui gubernatorial candidate, received a warm reception as he joined other local leaders at the State Lodge event — signaling what many observers believe is a major political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Musila hinted that he may no longer have a place in the Wiper Party, the outfit he once chaired, strongly suggesting he is ready to chart a new path. Political insiders now say the seasoned politician is eyeing the Kitui governor race on a UDA ticket.

“If you listen carefully, Musila is not just associating with the President for the sake of it. Something is cooking,” said a senior political observer in Kitui.

Musila remains a formidable force in Kitui politics, having served as Senator, long-serving MP, Assistant Minister, and Provincial Commissioner. His possible entry into the 2027 race under UDA would shake the ground, posing a direct challenge to Wiper’s dominance in Kitui and setting up a fierce battle against other likely contenders, including former governor Charity Ngilu and incumbent Julius Malombe.

With President Ruto aggressively courting Ukambani, Musila’s shift could be the clearest sign yet that Kitui’s political landscape is about to change dramatically.
