Kitui Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani has reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to creating employment opportunities through the tourism sector and enhanced vocational training.

Speaking during the ongoing County Budget and Economic Forum (CBEF) working retreat in Mombasa, Kanani emphasized the importance of empowering youth through professional courses such as those offered at Utalii College, noting that the hospitality industry continues to face a high demand for well-trained personnel.

“The government is keen on equipping our young people with practical skills that open doors to sustainable employment and entrepreneurship. Tourism and hospitality remain vibrant sectors with vast potential for growth,” he said.

Kanani further reiterated that under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, E.G.H., the County Government of Kitui remains focused on creating a conducive environment for business growth and investment.

Governor Malombe officially opened the statutory CBEF retreat themed “Transformative Leadership Through Knowledge-Based Management Approach.” The week-long forum brings together state and non-state actors, facilitators from the Kenya School of Government, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strengthening devolution and promoting evidence-based decision-making in county governance.

Key discussions during the retreat focus on:

• Strengthening devolution through inclusive planning and budgeting;

• Promoting transformative leadership for effective service delivery;

• Ensuring equitable allocation of resources across the county; and

• Enhancing public participation and citizen engagement in decision-making.

Governor Malombe has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparent, participatory, and knowledge-driven governance that aligns with the aspirations of the people of Kitui.

The retreat aims to enhance collaboration, accountability, and innovation in county planning processes — driving transformative development and sustainable growth across all sectors.
