Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has hailed Kitui County for successfully hosting the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations, describing it as a golden opportunity for Kenyans to discover one of the country’s most captivating yet underexplored tourist destinations.

Speaking after the national event graced by President William Ruto, CS Miano said the celebrations offered both physical and virtual attendees a chance to experience Kitui’s breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and fascinating folklore — a truly authentic Kenyan experience that remains untouched and serene.

Among the top attractions highlighted during the event was the iconic Nzambani Rock, the tallest rock formation in Kenya, which towers majestically above the Kitui plains. The site is steeped in local legend — that circling the rock seven times can mysteriously change one’s gender — a tale that continues to intrigue visitors and locals alike.

CS Miano encouraged domestic and international tourists to explore Kitui’s natural wonders, adding that tourism plays a key role in creating jobs and driving local economic growth. “Kitui is a hidden gem waiting to be fully discovered. Its beauty and cultural depth embody the essence of Magical Kenya,” she said.

The County Government of Kitui, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, has prioritized tourism development as part of its agenda to “Build a Brighter Future” through sustainable investment, heritage preservation, and community-based tourism initiatives.
