GOVERNOR MALOMBE TRANSFORMS KITUI WITH WATER, HEALTHCARE, AND INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has continued to cement his reputation as a visionary leader by rolling out massive development projects across the county, targeting critical sectors such as water, healthcare, infrastructure, and education. Since his return to office, his administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for Kitui residents through sustainable and people-centered initiatives.
One of the governor’s flagship achievements is the Kangu Kangu Water Project, a Sh840 million partnership with World Vision Kenya that now supplies clean and safe water to more than 100,000 residents across Kitui South and Kitui Rural. To further address water scarcity, the county has constructed 115 solar-powered boreholes and 347 sand dams, providing reliable water access to over 150,000 people in drought-prone areas.

In the health sector, Dr. Malombe’s administration has operationalized the Phangisile Mtshali Cancer Centre and reinstated CT scan services at the Kitui County Referral Hospital. With the rehabilitation of nine ambulances, the county’s emergency response system has improved considerably, bringing the total fleet to 26 ambulances serving various sub-counties.
Infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of his leadership. Over 5,000 kilometers of roads have been graded, linking remote areas to markets and enhancing trade. The establishment of the Kitui County Aggregation and Industrial Park (K-CAIP) has also become a game-changer, promoting value addition in agriculture and creating new economic opportunities for thousands of farmers and youth.

Through the revival of the Community Level Infrastructure Development Programme (CLIDP), nearly 1,000 local projects have been implemented across all 40 wards, ensuring equitable development. The conversion of 1,688 ECDE teachers to permanent and pensionable terms underscores his dedication to education. With Kitui ranked 7th nationally in development spending and leading in the Lower Eastern region, Governor Malombe’s transformative agenda continues to position the county as a model of progress and good governance.
