The Kitui County Ministry of Health and Sanitation has received a major boost after receiving a consignment of drugs and medical supplies valued at Ksh 69.7 million from the Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS). The supplies are expected to strengthen health service delivery across all public health facilities in the county.

Chief Officer for Drugs and Medical Supplies, Aggrey Kamba, received the consignment on behalf of CECM for Health and Sanitation, Ruth Koki, at the county’s main drug store. The package includes critical medicines for cancer, hypertension, and diabetes management, as well as specialized supplies for units such as the ICU, Renal, Laboratory, Maternity, and Newborn Units.

Speaking during the handover, Mr. Kamba appreciated MEDS for their continued partnership and assured residents that the drugs would be distributed across all 326 health facilities in Kitui. He noted that the delivery would significantly improve the county’s ability to provide continuous and quality care, particularly for patients with chronic and life-threatening conditions.

The Chief Officer revealed that this delivery follows a previous Ksh 80 million consignment from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), underscoring the county’s commitment to ensuring a consistent supply of essential medicines. He highlighted that Kitui County Referral Hospital (KCRH) serves over 1,000 patients daily, emphasizing the need for an uninterrupted flow of medical supplies.

Kamba reiterated that the consistent supply of medicines aligns with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s vision to strengthen the county’s healthcare system and improve health outcomes. The Ministry of Health continues to prioritize accessibility and reliability of essential drugs to ensure residents receive timely and effective treatment in all public facilities.
