MISEREOR OFFICIALS VISIT CARITAS KITUI PROJECTS IN MWINGI WEST
			By YOANA KIMWELE.
Two senior officials from MISEREOR, Dr. Kamila Krygier and Dr. Sabine Dorlöchter-Sulser, are on a monitoring visit to Kitui County to assess the progress of the Integrated Risk Reduction Project (IRRP) implemented by Caritas Kitui. The project, funded by MISEREOR, is being carried out in Mwingi West Sub County, specifically within Kyome/Thaana Ward.
The two professionals began their mission on Monday, 27th October 2025, with a courtesy call to His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela and the Caritas Kitui Director, Madam Florence Ndeti, at St. Augustine Secretariat Offices. The discussions focused on the achievements, challenges, and sustainability strategies for the ongoing IRRP initiatives before the team proceeded to field visits scheduled for 28th and 29th October 2025.
During the visit, Dr. Krygier and Dr. Dorlöchter-Sulser are expected to tour several project sites, including Winzeeyi Community Seed Bank, Kyusyani Rangeland, Kwa Julia Sand Dam, Tumila Earth Dam, and Kwa Kalundu Sand Dam. These sites represent key intervention areas of the project that focus on water access, community seed banks, and sustainable rangeland management and pasture production.
The monitoring mission comes at a critical time as the project enters its fourth and final phase. The visit aims to evaluate the project’s impact, ensure effective resource utilization, and strengthen the partnership between MISEREOR, Caritas Kitui, and local communities. The findings from the visit will also inform the next phase of collaboration between the two institutions.
Caritas Kitui has expressed deep appreciation to MISEREOR for its continued financial and technical support and commended the local communities for their active participation and ownership of the initiatives. The partnership continues to transform livelihoods across Kitui County by promoting resilience and sustainable resource management
