POLITICAL HEAT – KAWAYA TELLS KALONZO TO BEWARE OF RIGATHI
By Dr. Faith Musyoka
Mwala Member of Parliament Vincent Kawaya has issued a stern warning to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, urging him to be cautious in his political engagements with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The MP accused Rigathi of promoting divisive politics that threaten national unity and social cohesion, adding that his influence has been particularly toxic within the Mt. Kenya region.
Kawaya cited the recent controversial remarks by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who appeared to celebrate the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga, as evidence of Rigathi’s negative influence. “It’s no secret that Kahiga speaks for Rigathi. His reckless words reflect the mindset of his political mentor,” Kawaya stated. He called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to act swiftly and hold Governor Kahiga accountable for hate speech.
The Mwala MP further cautioned Kalonzo against aligning himself with Rigathi, warning that such a move could alienate him from peace-loving Kenyans. “Whenever Rigathi visits Ukambani, his message is wrapped in deceit and division, urging our people to resent President William Ruto,” he said. Kawaya stressed that Ukambani remains committed to peace, development, and cooperation with the national government.
According to Kawaya, the region’s focus should be on unity and progress, not political theatrics driven by personal grudges and regional rivalry. He reminded leaders to rise above petty politics and work together for the country’s economic recovery and stability.
The statement has ignited mixed reactions across the political divide, with some leaders supporting Kawaya’s sentiments while others view them as a strategic attempt to isolate Kalonzo ahead of 2027. As political temperatures rise, all eyes are now on Kalonzo Musyoka to see how he responds to the bold warning.
