Brooke East Africa and Caritas Kitui Empower Kauwi Water Committee with Sustainability Training
Kitui, October 2025 — As part of the sustainability measures for the ongoing Kauwi Water Project, Brooke East Africa in partnership with Caritas Kitui successfully conducted a three-day Community Water Committee training from 21st to 23rd October 2025. The capacity-building program aimed at equipping the community with essential skills for effective water resource management and long-term project sustainability.
The 11-member committee underwent comprehensive training on operations and maintenance, governance, and sustainability. The sessions also emphasized the interconnection between water, environment, health, and sanitation — key components for achieving holistic community development.
The training was facilitated by the Diocesan Hydrologist, Mr. Chrispine Njega, and the Kitui West Sub-County Water Officer, Madam Mbesa Mutisya. Their practical sessions focused on equipping the participants with hands-on skills necessary for maintaining and managing the water project efficiently.
A unique aspect of the training was the inclusion of donkey welfare education, reflecting the organizations’ holistic approach to community well-being. Committee members were sensitized on proper harnessing, use of suitable ropes, and general animal care — practices that promote both animal welfare and efficient water transport.
Caritas Kitui Director, Madam Florence Ndeti, and Project Coordinator, Mr. Ambrose Musyimi, visited the project sites to assess progress and engage with the water committee. Their visit underscored Caritas Kitui’s commitment to ensuring community ownership and sustainability of water projects across the region.
