Stop Politicizing Mashujaa National celebrations, Dr. Kyalo Muli warns Ukambani Leaders

National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli has strongly condemned a section of Ukambani leaders for allegedly turning the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui into a partisan political event.

Speaking to TCD digital News, Dr. Muli, who also serves as the Anzauni clan national patron, expressed disappointment over what he termed as the hijacking of a national celebration by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) loyalists. He claimed that the event, which was meant to honor Kenya’s national heroes, was instead used to advance narrow political interests.

“What we witnessed in Ithookwe Stadium was disappointing. Almost everyone who filled that stadium was a UDA affiliate. Mashujaa Day is not for political parties; it is a national celebration funded by taxpayers and should unite all Kenyans, not divide them,” said Dr. Muli.

He further lamented that some leaders from the Ukambani region have become the biggest obstacle to unity and development, arguing that they prioritize political allegiance over service delivery.

“The problem in Ukambani is not the people, it’s the leaders. They have allowed external political interests to divide and weaken our voice as a region,” he stated.

Despite his criticism, Dr. Muli extended gratitude to President William Ruto for selecting Kitui as the host county for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations. He described the event as a great honor for Kitui and the entire Eastern region, highlighting the opportunity it presented for showcasing the county’s potential.

“We sincerely thank the President for gracing Kitui. It was an opportunity for the world to see our beautiful county and its potential. However, such moments should not be misused for narrow political gains,” Dr. Muli added.

Dr. Muli’s remarks have sparked renewed debate on the need to separate national events from partisan politics and to promote unity across the Ukambani region.
