PS Mueke, REREC Boss Move to Fast-Track Rural Electrification in Kitui

Following President William Samoei Ruto’s Mashujaa Day directive to scale up electricity connectivity across Ukambani, the government has begun taking swift action to light up rural communities in Kitui County.

On Thursday morning, the Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, held a strategic meeting with Eng. Rose Mkalama, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), to map out priority areas for immediate power installation.

The discussions focused on accelerating access to electricity in underserved regions, aligning with the President’s broader agenda of inclusive development and improved livelihoods in rural Kenya. The two leaders agreed to roll out installations without delay to ensure that no community in Kitui is left behind in the national electrification drive.

PS Mueke emphasized that access to reliable electricity would not only enhance living standards but also boost productivity in key sectors such as education, agribusiness, and small-scale industries.

“This is about empowering households, schools, and enterprises in Kitui. We are lighting up opportunities and connecting our people to progress,” Mueke said.

The initiative marks a major step toward fulfilling the government’s promise of equitable access to energy and sustainable development across Ukambani.
