On Thursday, 20TH January, 2022 – Kitui Deputy Governor Dr Wathe Nzau, SEKEB Official meet livestock feed specialists from United States of America.

Thousands of farmers in Kitui could benefit from quality and adequate animal feeds following a proposed collaboration between the county administration and a USA-based hay production firm.

This was revealed during consultative talks between the American firm Global Collaboration Exchange (GCE), county officials and SEKEB team held at the governor’s office boardroom.

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Governor Dr Wathe Nzau said the firm had presented a proposal seeking collaboration with Kitui, Machakos and Makueni County Governments to implement a mass hay production project.

“They have requested for support in conducting a pilot project in the three counties of Ukambani under the SEKEB umbrella with a view of providing sustainable solutions to animal feed challenges in the ASAL region,” noted Dr Wathe.

The DG expressed optimism that if successful the programme would greatly spur livestock production thereby enhancing farmers’ livelihoods besides boosting the local economy.

“Quality and adequate feed will translate into increased livestock yield in terms of meat and milk, and consequently more income for the farmers,” he added.

The GCE delegation, led by founder and CEO Ngui Musau, included seed specialist Dr. Brad MacLaughlin and officials Noemi Sanchez and Koki Sammy.

SEKEB Ag. CEO Faith Muthoki, Heartland Black Chamber of Commerce (HBCC) President Kim Randolph and Lukenya Motorcross Director Mike Wamae were also in attendance.

The county government team included Ag. County Secretary Agnes Mulewa, Water & Agriculture CECM Emmanuel Kisangau and his Trade counterpart Esther Kilonzi, directors Fidelis Mwaniki (Trade) and Fernandes Mbindu Muli (Industry & Investment) and Assistant Director Justus Ndana.

The meeting was a follow-up of the firm’s engagement with Governor Charity Ngilu during her official visit to Kansas City in Texas, USA.

The team had earlier toured KICOTEC and the Kitui Leather Industries where they praised Governor Ngilu’s administration for milestones made in production.
