This government directive to set aside 20 boarding schools for use in fighting COVID 19 misinformed. As a member of the fourth estate, i find it wanting for Kenya to jeopardize learning by turning our schools where our kids are set to resume studies after this Corona Virus menace is over into quarantine centres.

We should rather be turning major prisons or stadiums in each of our economic blocks into quarantine centres to avoid stigmatising schools in post corona effects. Think of students refusing to go back to such places and their parents preferring transfers. We are setting grounds for students to burn dormitories once they return to school. Am not sure any of us would wish to use a blanket or mattress or a bed that a potential COVID 19 victim used.

Following the April 10K pax projection we should prioritize an early total shutdown in the country, settling street families through the due COVID – 19 Emergency Fund, stopping demolitions of residential houses and acquitting petty offenders to decongest prisons countrywide.

Further, let Parliament be recalled from recess to come up with a COVID 19 Mitigation bill to avoid the looming legal vacuum on matters Corona and if possible appropriate to the Judiciary coz it has been overrun by the outbreak in this important time when we need them most due to capacity issues.
