24th MARCH 2020:MINISTRY OF HEALTH PRESSER SUMMARY UPDATE

☑️ In the last 24 hours, a total of 82 samples have been taken for testing. Out if this, 9 have tested positive to Covid-19 bringing the total number of infections in Kenya to 25

☑️ The 25 cases are spread out in the following areas; Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale.

☑️ Out of the new 9 cases, 7 are Kenyan, 2 are foreign nationals. 3 of the 9 contracted it from local contacts and 4 came in from Covid-19 affected countries.

☑️ Tracing of close contacts for the the new and previous patients is ongoing. The total number of those traced so far is 745. 98 of these have been discharged after completing the 14 day-follow up period. The remaining ones are being monitored.

☑️ There have been challenges at JKIA, designated hotels and government facilities due to the huge numbers of people coming in; But the process has now been streamlined immediate emerging issues that have been sorted out so as to reduce as much as possible the inconveniences caused to travelers. More measures are being put in place to ease this process. The intervention to quarantine those coming into the country has been made to stop further importation of the virus into the country

☑️ Kenya has received a donation of 25,000 testing kits from Chinese businessman Jack Ma. The Ministry of Health appreciates those in Kenya who continue to support GoK initiatives from the private sector to government institutions.

☑️ Kenya is receiving both international and national support in its efforts to fight Covid-19.

☑️ Testing for Covid-19 will be cascaded to the county level, and the infrastructure for that is being put in place. At the moment, the country has capacity to test 360 samples per day but this will increase as the country expands its testing capacity.

☑️ For the various equipment needed in this process such as masks and protective gear, the country will supplement what is being imported with local production.

☑️ Tomorrow the Government of Kenya will announce further measures in view and in consideration of the developments so far
