Tea farmers have been urged to obsevre proper hygiene as part of public health measures to curb possible spread of corona virus (COVID-19).

Speaking to the county diary reporter today, Tegat Tea factory unit Manager Peterson Arao said they have directed all tea buying centres to ensure that all farmers wash their hands regularly before and after selling their products.

“As the KTDA we are sensitizing farmers through field officers to ensure there is a running water taps and soaps for hand washing are install at every tea buying centres,” Mr. Arao said.

He further disclose that all measures that they have put across have been followed by farmers where one farmers sells products after another to avoid crowding and also to avoid handshakes as directives from the ministry of health.

The unit factors boss also said they have guided the staff to ensure proper hygiene by setting up water jars and sanitizers at the entrance of the factory. And to control the movement in the factory we have suspended all factory visits ,staff meetings and farmers filed day activities untill further notice ,He said.

“As a part enhancing hygiene all vehicles entering and leaving the factory for tea collections have installed with the sanitizers and ensuring all staffs wash their hands before handling any deliveries to the factory”, Arao lamented.

Mr Arao said the safety team are on alert curb any case that might be recorded forward to the Kericho county health emergency officers where he called upon farmers to report any case that might occur having signs and symptoms of Corona virus.

According to the Chairman of Kaboswa Tea buying centre in Ainamoi Sub County Kericho County, Andrew Ngetich said they have sensitize farmers to follow measure and directives to avoid the spread of the disease.

“The transition is 100 percent observe re and anyone who found not to follow instructions His or Her products will not be collected”, Ngetich said. Ngetich also said they have ensured there is frequent sanitizers in the buying centre to allow tea deliveries process run smoothly.
