Women empowerment has been cited as important in ensuring the growth and development of women in Kitui County.

This was said by the County Director for Culture, Gender and Social services Mr Shedrack Musyoka during a Widows’ Empowerment Workshop held in a Kitui hotel today.

He said the county government is committed to providing a conducive environment that promotes entrepreneurship and favours job creation.

” You need to be organized in groups to explore areas among others capacity building and business trainings to benefit maximally from the government”. he said.

Mr Musyoka further called on women to get into leadership positions saying women in leadership are key in accelerating development.

Madam Elizabeth Katethya- the workshop’s host urged the women to stand on their feet in improving their lives and that of their children.

” Being widows’ does not mean that we can not do better, we need to focus on improving our lives to become even more better” she said.

The workshop targeted widows below the age of 40 years.
